Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which will be presented at the time of booking confirmation or vehicle pickup. This agreement outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your responsibilities for the rental period. In cases of inconsistency between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Bishop Auckland, you must be at least 21 years old, though age limits may differ based on the vehicle type, with extra fees for drivers under 25. A valid driving license for the appropriate vehicle category, held for the specified duration in the Rental Agreement, is required. You must also present valid identification and proof of your current address. Payment information and a security deposit are necessary, along with any other conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Details
- Reservations can be made via our website, by phone, or in person at our Bishop Auckland office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, it is imperative to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by both parties. The vehicle should be returned in the same condition as it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. Ensure that the vehicle is returned with the same level of fuel as at collection, as refueling fees will apply for any discrepancies. Should you foresee a late return, please notify us as soon as possible, as late charges may be incurred. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that arise during the rental period, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. You can find comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts outlined in the Rental Agreement. Optional insurance add-ons may be available to lower your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, except where additional insurance applies. Responsibility for damage resulting from negligence or misuse lies with you, irrespective of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise details, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited uses of rental vehicle:
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities or purposes. This includes, but is not limited to, racing, rallying, off-roading, or any activities deemed hazardous. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Additionally, using the vehicle for purposes outside its intended design, exceeding passenger or weight limits, or driving beyond the agreed geographical boundaries without authorization is not permitted.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Bishop Auckland is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will be capped at the amount you paid for the rental in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Local Legal Framework
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the jurisdiction of the relevant courts in this region.
10. Terms Updates
We reserve the right to change these Terms at any time. Updates take effect once they are posted on our website. Continued use of our services signifies your acceptance of the revised Terms.
